To consider and if thought fit pass a resolution to confer Freedom of the City to nominated organisations / persons.

 

Minutes:

Councillor Mark Shayer (Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance and Economy) introduced the nomination of Lewis Pugh OIG and Heather Knight OBE to bestow the honour Freedom of the City. The motion was seconded by Councillor Tudor Evans OBE.

 

It was agreed that in pursuance of its powers under Section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972, that, in appreciation of Lewis Pugh OIG and Heather Knight OBE’s glorious achievements in the service of this country and of their long association with the City, the Council conferred the title of Freeman of the City to them both.

Minutes:

Councillor Richard Bingley (Leader of the Council) introduced the nomination of the Joint Hospital Group (SW) to bestow the honour Freedom of the City. The motion was seconded by Councillor Tudor Evans OBE.

 

Following a discussion, with a contribution from Councillor Dr John Mahony, It was agreed that in pursuance of its powers under Section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972, that, in appreciation of the splendid traditions of Joint Hospital Group (SW) and as an expression of the admiration of the Citizens of Plymouth for their great and glorious achievements in the Service of this Country and of their long and historic association with the City, the Council do confer upon the services the Honorary Freedom of the City of Plymouth.

Freedom of the City

To consider and if thought fit pass the following resolution –

 

CONFERMENT OF THE FREEDOM OF THE CITY

 

Resolved, in pursuance of its powers under Section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972, that, in appreciation of the splendid traditions of

 

Falklands Veterans

 

and as an expression of the admiration of the Citizens of Plymouth for their great and glorious achievements in the Service of this Country and of their long and historic association with the City, the Council DO CONFER upon the services the HONORARY FREEDOM OF THE CITY OF PLYMOUTH.

 

(Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 provides that the foregoing honour may be conferred by resolution of the Council passed by not less than two thirds of the members voting thereon at the meeting specially convened for the purpose)

FREEDOM OF THE CITY

 

That in the pursuance of its powers under Section 249(1) of the Local Government Act 1972, the Council confers the title of Freedom of the City in recognition of his achievements in the field of Diving at the European, World Championships, Commonwealth Games and the Olympics –
