The were no declarations of interest made by councillors in accordance with the code of conduct.

Appointment of Honorary Aldermen

To pass the following resolution – HONORARY ALDERMEN That in pursuance of its powers under Section 249(1) of the Local Government Act 1972, the Council confers on Mr Brian Vincent, past Member of Plymouth City Council, the title of Honorary Alderman in recognition of his eminent services to the Council of the said City during the period when he was a Member of the Council.

 

Unfortunately, as the nominee passed away during the 2022/23 Municipal Year, the honour is recommended to be awarded posthumously as a tribute and a mark of respect to Mr Vincent’s family.

 

(Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 provides that the foregoing honour may be conferred by resolution of the Council passed by not less than two thirds of the members voting thereon at a meeting specially convened for the purpose.)

Minutes:

Councillor Evans OBE introduced the nomination of Mr Brian Vincent to receive the title of Honorary Alderman status posthumously. The motion was seconded by Councillor Mary Aspinall.

 

Council agreed unanimously that, in pursuance of its powers under Section 249(1) of the Local Government Act 1972, the Council confers on Mr Brian Vincent, the title of Honorary Alderman in recognition of him eminent services to the Council of the said City during the period when they were a Member of the Council.

 

The Lord Mayor On behalf of Council offered her congratulations to Councillor Pauline Murphy, who accepted the medal and scroll on behalf of Mr Brian Vincent.
