The Assistant Director and Head of Legal Services reminded Councillors that they had a dispensation in respect of the awarding of ceremonial honours. (According to Part G, Codes and Protocols, para 21.2, Councillors Code of Conduct in the constitution)

HONORARY FREEMEN AND HONORARY FREEWOMEN pdf icon PDF 60 KB

In pursuance of its powers under Section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972, to consider the appointment of Honorary Freemen and Honorary Freewomen in appreciation and acknowledgement of the eminent and distinguished services rendered by them to the City.

 

(Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 provides that the foregoing honour may be conferred by resolution of the Council passed by not less than two thirds of the members voting thereon at a meeting specially convened for the purpose).

Agreed that in pursuance of its powers under section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972, the Council confers on –

 

(1)

Mrs Jean Nelder the title of Honorary Freewoman in appreciation and acknowledgement of the eminent and distinguished services rendered by her to the City of Plymouth;

 

(2)

Father Sam Philpott the title of Honorary Freeman in appreciation and acknowledgement of the eminent and distinguished services rendered by him to the City of Plymouth;

 

(3)

Mrs Angela Rippon the title of Honorary Freewoman in appreciation and acknowledgement of the eminent and distinguished services rendered by her to the City of Plymouth;

 

(4)

Mr David Stark the title of Honorary Freeman in appreciation and acknowledgement of the eminent and distinguished services rendered by him to the City of Plymouth.
