Issue details
Brickfields Sports Centre
Brickfields Sports Centre is significantly
under-utilised, and operates currently under a significant subsidy
provided by the Council to Plymouth Active Leisure (PAL).
Significant investment is required to improve the services offered
at Brickfields, as well as to make the whole site feel more of an
asset to the community which surrounds it.
Following a period of community engagement, stakeholders have
identified the opportunity to repurpose the facilities, expanding
its use from a sports centre to a wider community physical activity
and well-being hub, with enhanced external sports pitches including
the provision of a covered all weather pitch, a first for the
city.
The proposal includes the provision for PAFC’s Academy to be
based at Brickfields. This would bring in significant investment,
enabling the improvements required to produce a step change in the
way and the extent to which the site is used by the local
community.
The proposal will involve close collaboration between partners
Argyle Community Trust, Plymouth Argyle Football Club, Albion Rugby
Football Club, and Devonport Community Leisure LTD (who currently
hold the lease to the Brickfields Sports Centre building).
