Ceasing use of the crematorium buildings at Efford and Weston Mill cemeteries for funeral services

The decision is for Plymouth City Council to close the crematorium buildings permanently for the purposes of Bereavement Services at Efford and Weston Mill cemeteries.

It is not cost effective to keep the crematorium buildings at Efford and Weston Mill cemeteries maintained, heated, and with sufficient staffing to be able to open them. This is combined with demand dropping to zero within a few weeks of The Park opening, and the recognised inability of these buildings to offer modern facilities which are inclusive for all.

This decision does not impact on Efford and Weston Mill cemeteries, and they will remain open for burial (whilst space remains) and memorialisations, including the Book of Remembrance Room. Access to the niche room/columbaria will remain by appointment only.
